Stress is an unavoidable part of our life. We cannot control our stress triggers, but we can control our response to the trigger. The stress response in our body is due to activation of the sympathetic system, commonly known as our fight or flight response. Short periods of stress are healthy for us, however prolonged and chronic stress causes imbalance in the body resulting in disease.
Yoga for Stress Relief counteracts the stress in our body by activating the parasympathetic system, our rest and digest response. This restores our body back into a state of equilibrium, allowing natural healing to take place.
In these classes, focus is placed on breath and alignment using props such as bolsters, blocks and blankets. The body is well supported in order to minimise effort to maximise therapeutic gain.
